Dak., October 24, 1954; B.S., South Dakota State University, 1977; insurance and real estate executive; member of the South Dakota state senate 1991-2000, serving as majority leader 1995-2000; governor of South Dakota 2003-2011; elected as a Republican to the United States Senate in 2014; reelected in 2020 for the term ending January 3, 2027.
