TURNER, Sylvester, a Representative from Texas; born in Houston, Harris County, Tex., September 27, 1954; graduated from Klein High School, Klein, Tex., 1973; B.A., University of Houston, Houston, Tex., 1977; J.D., Harvard University, Cambridge, Mass., 1980; lawyer, private practice; member of the Texas state house of representatives, 1989-2016, speaker pro tempore, 2003-2005; Mayor of Houston, Tex., 2016-2024; elected as a Democrat to the One Hundred Nineteenth Congress; served until his death on March 5, 2025 (January 3, 2025-March 5, 2025); died on March 5, 2025, in Washington, D.C.; lay in state in the rotunda of Houston City Hall, Houston, Tex., March 11, 2025; lay in honor in the hall of the Texas house of representatives in the Texas state capitol, Austin, Tex., March 13-14, 2025.
